Mindfulness for Children

Mindfulness Self-Compassion tools and practice are integrated into each session at JDB Speech. In today’s world, children and pre-teens are under more pressure and experiencing higher levels of stress than ever before.

An increasing demand in technology, academic preparation and life transitions often result in physical and emotional stressors, such as:

• Irritability
• Anxiety
• Depression

These stressors can affect your child’s well-being and happiness. Our curriculum utilizes a combination of age-appropriate mindfulness and mindful self-compassion exercises, that include art, music, gentle stretching and yoga, multimedia and carefully crafted meditation practices, to support social and emotional learning, and facilitate your child’s/pre-teen’s ability to:

• Sharpen their focus and pay attention
• Experience life situations with less emotional reactivity
• Learn effective strategies for making better choices
• Develop a greater capacity for self-regulation
• Increase gratitude, kindness and compassion for themselves and others
• Learn skills for self-care
• Develop an overall sense of well-being and calmness
• Build emotional resilience
• Develop a more meaningful connection to themselves and the world around them

Neuroscience research provides strong evidence that these mindfulness and mindful self-compassion practices can alter the structure and function of the brain to improve quality of life and increase the potential for long-term well-being.
